Taita Bernardo Chindoy is a traditional healer from the Kamentsá-Biyá people, who are native to the Putumayo rainforest in southern Colombia. The name of his people translates to “people from here, with their own way of thinking and language.” He belongs to a lineage spanning several generations of traditional healers who work with plants, and he lives permanently in the jungle, where he cultivates and prepares the medicines he uses in his Yagé healing ceremonies, accompanied by icaros, songs, dances, and the natural aromas of the plants. His work goes beyond ceremonial practice, as he actively participates in preserving his community’s cultural heritage, training new taitas, and building bridges with other peoples.
