Itamar dos Anjos Silva, born in Caravelas, Bahia, is a central figure in the preservation and promotion of Brazilian Afro-Indigenous culture. With a strong academic background, including a degree in Pedagogy (2014) and a Master’s in Teaching Ethnic-Racial Relations from the Federal University of Southern Bahia (2019), recognized by the Ministry of Culture and the Secretariat of Diversity as a Master of Popular Culture, Itamar combines his theoretical knowledge with vibrant artistic and cultural practice.
Since childhood and over more than 40 years of his career, Itamar has stood out as a choreographer, dancer, artistic director, visual artist, screenwriter, and actor. In 1988, he co-founded the Afro-Indigenous Cultural Anthropology Group Umbandaum with partners from his community and has actively participated in the Cultural Movement Arte Manha since 1992, developing projects that rescue and valorize Afro-Indigenous cultural traditions. His work spans multiple art forms, including theater, dance, music, and visual arts.
