Imikã
Indigenous Leadership — Tubu Hummürimassá
Colombia

Imikã Tarirú Bary Vera Kuary Baru, known as Imika Tubu, is a traditional healer trained in the knowledge of the Yurupari Jaguars and a spiritual leader of the Tubú Hummurimasa Nation, an Indigenous People from the Apaporis River region in the Colombian Amazon. Displaced by political violence in Colombia, Imika carries a profound understanding of the Western world through the philosophy of his people.

He is the founder of the urban Tubú Hummurimasa nucleus in Bogotá and of the Suary Association, which promotes cultural, educational, and collective care projects in urban contexts. Imika’s work is dedicated to transmitting the legacy of the Tubu People into our time: how to rebuild a society that has been unraveled and lost. Ancient stories, medicines, chants, and traditional dances—the pinnacle of knowledge—help sustain balance and health within the community, which today includes Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, using our differences as material to collectively weave our shared path.
