Putanny Yawanawa is a spiritual leader and visionary of the Yawanawa people, in the Rio Gregório Indigenous Territory, Acre, Brazilian Amazon. She was one of the first women of her people to be initiated into the sacred knowledge of Yawanawa spirituality, breaking traditional barriers and paving the way for the strengthening of female leadership both within and outside her community.
Alongside her husband, Chief Nixiwaka Yawanawa, they lead the Aldeia Sagrada (Sacred Village) and work towards the reactivation of collective memories, spiritual wisdom, and deep bonds with the sacred territory of the Yawanawa.
Putanny is dedicated to the transmission of traditional knowledge, the defense of territories and sacred medicines, and the preservation of Indigenous cultures. Through songs, prayers, and intercultural dialogues, she shares Yawanawa spirituality with communities in Brazil and around the world, always with a profound commitment to her people’s values. Putanny was the host of the V Ayahuasca Indigenous Conference and participated in previous editions of the event. Her work represents a living bridge between tradition and transformation, between the forest and the world.
