Influenced by the indigenous struggle in Mexico, since 1990, he has been working in the organization of his native community, La Reforma, San Mateo Yoloxochitlán (Oaxaca). He began his career studying Mazatec theology in the Basic Ecclesial Community (CEB), which in 1991 launched a movement to recover Mazatec culture, faith, spiritual practices, and prayers. After the founding of the School of Indigenous Ministry (EMI), he worked as a translator and general coordinator for the Prelature of Huautla, overseeing eight parishes. He has been a teacher of reading and writing in the Mazatec language at the Chjine én chjine kjua high school and a promoter of traditional medicine at the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI), work that allowed him to learn about the decline of knowledge of plants in the Mazatec region. In response to this serious situation, he formed a group to strengthen traditional medicine in Santa María la Asunción and San José Tenango. Since 2023, thanks to support from the Indigenous Medicine Conservation Fund, his working groups have been strengthened and extended to other communities in the Mazatec highlands.
