This session will trace the paths of ayahuasca in the non-Indigenous world, from its Amazonian origins to its global expansion. Topics will include Indigenous contacts with non-Indigenous peoples, the emergence of the Santo Daime churches and other religious uses, expansion to other Brazilian states and countries, as well as cases of expansion in other Amazonian nations, contextualizing the internationalization and ongoing globalization of ayahuasca across diverse settings.
