Alex Lucitante is a renowned Indigenous leader of the A’i Kofán Nation in Ecuador, a prominent human rights defender, and an activist committed to protecting the rights of nature and ancestral territories. His tireless work in defense of the Amazon has made him one of the most influential voices in the global fight against the climate crisis.

In 2022, he was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize, considered the “Green Nobel,” in recognition of his leadership and courage in defending the environment. He has also been recognized on three occasions as one of the 100 Latin Americans most committed to the planet, reaffirming his impact and dedication in the face of contemporary environmental challenges.

Alex is the heir to a deep lineage of wise guardians of his people’s ancestral knowledge. He is also recognized as a disciple of the wisdom of yagé (ayahuasca), a spiritual science that has strengthened his connection with nature and his life’s purpose. From this spiritual foundation also springs his work as a composer of medicine music, through which he shares messages of healing, awareness, and harmony with the Earth.

Currently, at age 33, Alex continues to inspire people around the world through his actions and his message. He affirms that his commitment to defending the forest stems from the ancestral knowledge of yagé, which teaches the sacred and inseparable relationship between Indigenous peoples and their territories. In his view, if the forest disappears, indigenous peoples will disappear with it; and if indigenous peoples disappear, the forest will also be lost.

For Alex, the Amazon is not just an ecosystem, but a sacred space—the common home of all humanity. For this reason, he argues that protecting it is not solely the responsibility of indigenous peoples, but a collective duty of society as a whole.
