Segua María García Valenzuela is an Indigenous Yaqui woman whose work centers on serving as an advisor and counselor for her Indigenous people through social work. Her passion lies in her culture and in the identity of being an Indigenous woman, shaped by a spirituality guided by her people’s cosmovision and by the legacy of her ancestors — among them her father, Don Lorenzo, a noted social activist within the tribe and one of the first allies of the Nierika intercultural medicine project in the Yaqui people since 2013. She is currently pursuing a degree in Indigenous Law at the Universidad del Pueblo Yaqui.
